We are planting 45 mature trees (45 gallon each) with irrigation and funding in Richardson Parks (see image) to reduce canopy inequity, on National Arbor Day, 2025. We are also funding free giveaways of 500 tree saplings along with the City of Richardson as part of their Richardson Replants program to restore Richardson’s tree canopy and foliage.
Richardson Replants is an initiative announced by the Mayor and City Council in July 2024 to address the significant tree loss caused by a May 28, 2024, a severe weather event that brought hurricane-force winds to Richardson and other parts of the DFW Metroplex. By hosting these tree giveaway events, we help our community replant, renew, and restore natural canopy for both residential properties and shared open space at parks, to provide shade and beauty. This is part of OEOC’s efforts to promote climate resilience in North Texas.
We are planting 45 mature trees (45 gallon each) with irrigation and funding in Richardson Parks (see image) to reduce canopy inequity. City parks were severely impacted by the May 28, 2024 storm event, and they will have trees planted on National Arbor Day, 2025, through a continued partnership with City of Richardson’s Richardson Replants program (http://www.cor.net/RichardsonReplants).

Tools for planting will be provided at the event.

The fall and spring planting periods were chosen as they are the best time of year for establishing new trees. Trees will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of one tree per household.
Types of trees - We will have drought-tolerant native trees that are proven to do well in North Texas.
Transportation - The trees will be approximately 5 feet tall in 5-gallon containers and should fit in a sedan sized car. We recommend using a trash bag or tarp in your vehicle to protect against soil spillage.
Planting your tree - We will answer any questions about the care of your newly adopted tree. If you can't plant the tree right away, keep the tree watered in its container and try to plant it as soon as possible.
Eligibility - Residents will be asked to show Proof of residency in Richardson, either a state issued identification card (Driver’s License) or a recent water utility bill.
