Second Act

We advocate for a true circular economy by supporting responsible consumption, regular reuse, proper recycling, and avoidance of single-use items. We help residents divert hard-to-recycle trash away from local landfills through designated community drop-off points and corporate recycling partnership with Terracycle, Ridwell, etc.

Hard to recycle items include e-waste/ batteries, soft plastic, etc.

Central to this effort are our Second Act community drives. We gather a wide variety of gently used items—including clothing, home cookware, books, and small electronics—to give them a new life.

Collection of used Items (no large and heavy items).

• Clothes (linen, cotton, silk, wool, denim, coats, socks)

• Home (ceramic, glass, cookware, utensils, bowls, vases, containers, bottles, pots, mirrors, pictures, lamps, baskets, blankets)

• Other (decor, favors, books, electronics, laptops, toys, plants, seeds, produce, packaged food, soap, oil, makeup)

Collected items are either donated directly to those in need or resold. Every dollar raised through these sales directly funds our native tree planting programs. This continuous loop promotes widespread reuse, slashes landfill waste, and lowers consumer demand for brand-new manufacturing.

Ecopedia

To fully close the loop for zero waste and make everyday circularity effortless, we developed Ecopedia, a responsible AI-based progressive web application, created by Aarav Rao, entrepreneurship award winner. Ecopedia utilizes advanced AI recognition and precise image classification to instantly identify and sort household waste into six distinct streams: Recyclable, Compostable, Organic waste, E‑waste, Non‑recyclable, or Store drop‑off. The app then provides nearby disposal locations based on real-time geolocation.

Beyond automatic sorting, Ecopedia provides interactive guidance on green resources, practical tips, DIY projects, eco-friendly recipes, product and service rentals, community swaps, and sustainable purchases. This comprehensive platform integrates free and paid resources, actionable checklists, and direct links to certified green businesses, products, and services. The information covers recycling unrecyclables, utilizing reusable grocery or produce bags, sustainable water bottles, and to-go bento boxes. It also guides users through container gardening, community gardens, nurseries, farmer’s markets, farms, home composting, DIY fertilizer, natural pesticide, DIY cleaners, air fresheners, beauty products, native trees, plants, garden-to-table vegetables, local restaurants, food recovery, refilleries, eco marketplaces, investing, transport, events, courses, social media posts, newsletters and much more.
