Green Citizen micro-learning stimulates important beginner-level conversations about sustainability. This month, we present the topic "Beyond the Lawn: Ecoscaping".
Sustainable landscaping balances aesthetic appeal with environmental responsibility. Traditional turf grass lawns and hardscaping materials dominate the market and ecoscaping comprises 45% of residential and commercial landscaping. Practices like permaculture, xeriscaping and native gardening create self-sustaining, biodiverse ecosystems that work with nature rather than against it.
The session includes a presentation by youth moderators Shreya Madhu and Ashvin Vallabhaneni, and, an interview with experts Paulette Platko and Mary Abercrombie. A suggested donation of $5 would be greatly appreciated to fund tree planting.
